Workshop
Workshop: GCMAC 2024 | Integration and automation of materials characterization techniques (Part I)
The German Canadian Materials Acceleration Centre is hosting a day-long in-person training workshop at Accelerate 2024, focused on the Integration and Automation of Materials Characterization Techniques. Participants will learn about automating materials characterization and resultant data collection and management, form connections with other researchers directly involved in MAPs development in Canada and around Europe, and participate in a lab tour. The workshop will feature Prof. Dr.-Ing Helge Stein (TUM), Dr. Robert Black (NRC), Dr. Kourosh Malek (FZJ), Dr. Süleyman Er (DIFFER), Dr. Pascal Friederich (KIT), and Dr. Payam Kaghazchi (FZJ), and Dr. Michael Greenwood (NRCan). Event Registration: https://gcmac.ca/event/gcmac-workshop/

Workshop
Workshop: Machine learning for the design of photonic materials
This workshop, hosted by members of the Institut Courtois (IC), will focus on some important challenges in the discovery of new materials for quantum photonics applications. The workshop will be divided in two parts. First, we will have few broad-audience presentations on selected topics at the heart of IC's research interests: novel materials for quantum light generation, advanced coherent spectroscopy techniques and functionalized photonic systems. Then, a more open period, moderated by P. St-Jean, will aim at exchanging ideas on how advanced computational tools can help shifting paradigms in these fields.

Organizers:

  • Philippe St-Jean, Institut Courtois
  • Delphine Bouilly, Institut Courtois

Workshop
Workshop: Automation and the arts | exploring the aesthetics of the self-driving labs
We are exploring what artistic potential lies within an SDL’s automated and intelligent processes. In this workshop participants will learn about past and present examples of artistic uses of automation, explore the possible aesthetics of the self-driving labs through creative exercises, and consider the arts as a medium for knowledge mobilization and community engagement for SDLs.

Workshop
Workshop: Challenge meets solution: an unresolved research symposium
In this symposium, researchers will present unsolved problems rather than solutions. The goal is to help researchers come up with solutions to their problems while sparking collaboration between different groups and disciplines.
